About Me

HerrinHello there, my name is Herrin.

This website is a resource for anyone wanting to create or upgrade their online presence.

I am constantly learning about technology on the web, and specifically how it can help you and me to help us market what we provide that is special.

Please explore the blog for useful tips on web technology, marketing and more. I post as frequently as I can but my focus is on short useful tutorials or information that can be used to make life on the web;

Easier to manage, more personal, more effective, more profitable and less confusing!!

Let me tell you a little about myself and in the process, how I can help you…

For the last 2 years I have been developing a record label called Astronomy Records. I am a bit of a control freak so perhaps foolishly, I wanted to do it all myself.

When I started out I was creating web pages in a program called Freeway Pro, on the Mac. Anyway, I am not a designer so apart from it looking very amateurish it was also hard to maintain and I was always messing with layout rather than focusing on Content.

And ladies and gentlemen, Content is the magic word.

  • Quality content,
  • simple clean layout,
  • personal one-to-one communication, AND
  • a clear idea of what you are about and what the focus of your website is.

Instead most people focus on the bells and whistles and the colors!

Why?

Because most people do not feel in control of their site and its content.

Think about it. Who wants a website?? No-one really.

What you want is leverage.

You want to communicate something, reach more people, develop relationships, sell your product or service and expand your world.

In short to create more value for yourself and your visitors.

To do that on an ongoing basis, you need a dynamic website.

So what are the benefits of a dynamic website?

  • Change, add, and update content at any time, check statistics, and administer your site from one simple to use interface.
  • Theme templates give you a huge range of aesthetic choices but also maintain a clean, professional presentation.
  • Through the blog and comments sections, people are encouraged to interact with you and re-visit your site. If you get people coming back, THEN you have a chance of selling them something.
  • Plugins give you access to a huge range of features from forms, to photo galleries, backups and shopping carts, all managed from the same administration interface.
  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization) if setup correctly will at the very least make it easy to find your site by name, and at the best will build a flow of incoming traffic to you using keywords and creating value for your visitors. Without this your site may as well not exist. Sorry.

wordpress logo provides all that.

ALERT! - I am releasing a downloadable DIY kit early 2008. If your are interested in making your own Wordpress site but don’t want the sweat and tears, contact me here or, you could subscribe to the Effective Classy Websites free newsletter.

There are other dynamic systems out there, but none have the community of users and developers as well as the simple, secure interface of Wordpress.

A dynamic system like Wordpress, gives you a structured and flexible way of arranging your navigation, uploading images and adding/editing content from any computer on the net, with just a user name and a password.

Portable, flexible and clean, the Wordpress platform makes you and your visitors feel at home.

And, it encourages you to focus on the content.

The blog (see Info Blog above) part of the site has traditionally been for (you guessed it) blogging, but it presents other possibilities as well, especially for marketing and search engine visibility. It doesn’t have to be the front page, but it’s an invaluable way to provide your visitors with manageable, useful bits of information or content.

Here’s a peek at the post/page editing tools.

In addition, all the pages in Wordpress are fully editable.

You can upload images, insert YouTube videos, write articles, make links and more. All with a fraction of the training required for the static systems.
