For the last 2 years I have been developing a record label called Astronomy Records. I am a bit of a control freak so perhaps foolishly, I wanted to do it all myself.
When I started out I was creating web pages in a program called Freeway Pro, on the Mac. Anyway, I am not a designer so apart from it looking very amateurish it was also hard to maintain and I was always messing with layout rather than focusing on Content.
And ladies and gentlemen, Content is the magic word.
- Quality content,
- simple clean layout,
- personal one-to-one communication, AND
- a clear idea of what you are about and what the focus of your website is.
Instead most people focus on the bells and whistles and the colors!
Why?
Because most people do not feel in control of their site and its content.
Think about it.
Who wants a website?? No-one really.
What you want is leverage.
You want to communicate something, reach more people, develop relationships, sell your product or service and expand your world. In short to create more value for yourself and your visitors.
